How to Deal with Change and Being a Whole Human on The Parker Blog

What happens to a person’s goals and aspirations after walking away from their career? For Monique Helstrom, it was the realization that she was only fulfilling part of her life, to the detriment of the others. The Whole Human was founded on helping recovering workaholics find their space and fill themselves out to become a whole human.

What does being a whole human mean?

“It is feeding all of the different parts that you need to survive.” According to Monique, this includes not just your professional aspect of your life, but also your education and learning, creativity, and your health. It is also about cultivating your spirit – having a connection to something that isn’t just about yourself or your work.

“We all want change, but when you pare it down, we as individuals are very scared of change.”

The key, says Monique, is to break down the change you want to make into smaller steps. For example, it’s not about wanting to exercise and going full-bore. It’s about taking a small step to first do the research. Then it’s about paring some time to try some things out.

“Every day, turn that dial,” recommends Monique. “What is the next best thing that you can do – that you have control over – that makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something?”
